Do you believe in angels? If so, you’re in luck because tomorrow marks the release of WINGIN’ IT: SEASON ONE out on DVD! Currently in production of the third season, WINGIN’ IT is all about a teenage angel, Porter (Demetrius Joyette), who has to get his wings by making quirky Carl (Dylan Everett) the most popular kid at their school. With the help of their brainy friend, Jane (Brittany Adams), week after week they get in hilarious situations that are (sometimes literally) out of this world!
The Mag got the chance to chat with Dylan, Demetrius, and Brittany about what it’s like to work on the show!
On season three:
Dylan Everett: [Carl’s] got a little bit more confidence in himself. Porter and Brittany have kind of become his friends and what not, so everything is being pulled together for him, and the situations are getting better, so everything is becoming less unusual and more regular for Mr. Montclair.
Brittany Adams: It seems that there’s a lot of love going on with my character. She’s always been more about school, but this season she’s showing her feminine side and thinking about boys a little bit more.
Demetrius Joyette: [Porter’s] still very much the same in the sense that he always messes up his magic. So far we’ve only looked at a couple of scripts, but we see that he starts to realize that he messes up his magic and he’s doing what he can to fix it.
On what they love about playing their characters:
DJ: I love how cool [Porter] is! I just love how he’s laid back and how he never worries about anything. He gets to be completely magical everywhere and doesn’t have to worry about the consequences!
DE: What I love the most are definitely the situations that Porter gets him into. They’re so unusual and not regular and that’s what’s so appealing about playing Carl. He’s a “roll with the punches kind of guy” and Porter puts him into these situations but somehow he always turns out better than when he went into them, so for that reason I love playing Carl. It’s a really amazing experience.
BA: [Jane] has a lot of energy and she’s enthusiastic about everything related to school. She’s the president of every club at school. It’s really fun to play that high strung bubbly character!
They’re favourite moment in the season so far:
DE: I think I'm going to have to go with when Carl was turned into a girl….That was a whole process. I had to shave my legs, I had to learn how to walk in heels, I had to do all sorts of crazy stuff, but i t was a blast! I think that was my favourite moment for whatever reason.
BA: We filmed an episode where [Jane] got sucked into a movie, and I got to be an astronaut. We filmed the whole thing on a green screen! We were pretending to shoot laser guns in space costumes so that was pretty cool.
DJ: There’s an episode where me, Dylan and Sebastian [Hearn, who plays Serge] became superheroes and Surge was this garbage superhero and his strength is littering and our strength is recycling. It was a lot of fun because we got into costumes and made the garbage rocket, and covered the school in garbage. Then in the Halloween one they built a haunted house in the gym which was really fun.
On meeting Fefe Dobson:
DJ: It was great! She was very nice and very fun to work with and it was great to have her talent on our show.
DE: She’s an incredibly hard worker and she looks extremely professional on set and I’ve got nothing but good things to say about her….I'm really glad I got to meet her and work with her.
BA: I actually used to listen to her music when I was in high school so that was kind of cool! She was really nice and really friendly.
Who they would cast for a guest spot:
BA: Kristen Wiig. She’s my new favourite comedy actress.
DJ: Drake. That would be awesome, although that’s very unlikely at this point!
DE: Shia Labeouf because I kind of modeled the character after him, his character from EVEN STEVENS. I respect him tremendously and he’s definitely one of the people I’d love to work with in the future.
What they would make a personal angel do:
BA: All my homework!
DJ: You know, make me popular, do my homework and stuff…probably the exact same thing that Carl is asking Porter to do, except I wouldn’t want him to mess up as much as Porter does!
DE: Oh there are a few things I could think of. First thing being making me taller and stronger. The second thing would be something to attract the girls with maybe like special cologne or really special clothes. Then I would make it give me a Ferrari, because we all know that those are chick magnets.
When they’re not acting:
DE: I play a lot of video games and try to stay healthy. I work out and stay in shape. I also play a lot of sports like soccer and hockey. I like to do regular teenage stuff, like hanging out with friends and stuff.
BA: I’m at university so I still have a semester of that. Other than that I read a lot which is similar to my character- kind of nerdy in a sense. I like to dance, go to the gym, sing, hang out with friends and enjoy the sun!
DJ: I love playing sports like basketball. I love paintball which is an uncommon sport to a lot of people even though it’s an extreme sport. I like PlayStation like any normal kid, shopping, and doing what normal kids do!
Thank you, Dylan Everett, Brittany Adams and Demetrius Joyette! The first season of WINGIN’ IT goes out tomorrow, or you could try and win a copy here!
