Now that the year is almost over, we here at The Mag wanted to reflect on our favourite movies that came out in 2011. After much debate, discussion, and countless rap-battles, we finally figured out our top picks. Here are our individual favourite movies of 2011 and why:
Karen, the Editor: HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS: PART 2
I’m biased when it comes to anything that has to do with Harry Potter, but I could not have pictured a better ending to it all than this. With a perfect balance between the epic action and the emotional moments, THE DEATHLY HALLOWS: PART 2 capped off a movie series that never compromised on the high standards set by the books.
Nicole, the Web Editor: THE MUPPETS
I was in tears the whole time. Tears of laughter, tears of sadness, tears of joy… it made me the happiest emotional wreck I’ve ever been. Somewhere between the 80’s robots and the maniacal laughter, I whispered to myself: “This is the perfect movie.”
Ed, the Publisher: HUGO
It's hard to pick just 1 movie from 2011, which has been an amazing year mainly because Hollywood has stopped being so cynical and negative and instead started telling inspirational and hopeful stories again! No title this year embodies that spirit more than Martin Scorcese's valentine to the history of cinema itself, HUGO. Not only content with telling a charming story with brilliant performances, HUGO is also quite simply the best use of 3-D I have ever seen. Absolutely spellbinding.
