Top 5 Retro Revivals

5. GARFIELD AND FRIENDS

The CGI used to make a live-action Garfield really made us appreciate the simplicity of ‘80s animation. Visuals aside though, the film’s voice acting was definitely on par with the original. If you can’t get the original Garfield voice, Lorenzo Music, in the film, who you gonna call? Bill Murray, obviously.

4. TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES

How many remakes has this 1987 cartoon gone through? Let’s see: there was the live-action series in the ‘90s, the second animated series in the 2000s, four feature length movies… you get the point. While every version had its highlights, like the slick new look for the Turtles in 2007’s TMNT, there is still nothing better than the original ‘toon.

3. THE SMURFS

Many original SMURF fans cringed at the thought of their little blue friends being put on the big screen, but massive ticket sales proved otherwise. Whether or not Smurfs were ever intended to rap is beside the point.

2. ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS

Actors Justin Long, Matthew Gray Gubler and Jesse McCartney must have been serious ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS fans before this, because they’ve lent their voices as the famous Chipmunks for all three movies… not that you can tell that it’s them.

1. TRANSFORMERS

From toys to TV to feature length movie, the TRANSFORMERS franchise was always meant to be more than just a retro cartoon. Can you think of an alien robot that’s more popular than Optimus Prime? Neither can we.
