Oscar Recap: HUGO and THE ARTIST sweep awards

Remember last year when Anne Hathaway and James Franco hosted the Oscars and it made the world pine for their favourite award show host ever – Billy Crystal – to return? Goes to show, be careful what you wish for. Poor Billy is now dealing with a lot of negative backlash from his old school “flavor” that he brought to the show. But in this day and age, good feedback is hard to come by.

Hosting aside, we feel happy about the winnings! Best Film went to the well-deserved THE ARTIST, where our beloved Uggie the Dog attended the show wearing an 18-carat gold bone bow tie. THE ARTIST also won Best Directing, Best Costume Design, Best Music (Original Score) and landed Jean DuJardin his first Oscar for Best Actor in a Leading Role.

Even though it didn’t come out on top for best picture, HUGO also took home a pile of awards including Best Cinematography, Art Direction (beating out both THE ARTIST and HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS PART 2), Sound Editing, Sound Mixing and Visual Effects (another HARRY beat out.)

Other honorable winners include Best Original Song going to our favourite song ever, “Man or Muppet” from THE MUPPETS, written by Flight of the Concords’ Bret McKenzie and RANGO taking home Best Animated Feature.
