Sure, that memorable quote from THE SIMPSONS has nothing to do with GLEE, or this news, but we can’t help but think of it when learning of this. The cast of GLEE have broken yet another record! And not just any record, one they had already had! (James Cameron much?)
This week, they became the first and only act to place 200 entries on the Billboard Hot 100 chart! They first hit the charts in 2009 with their classic (and overplayed) rendition of “Don’t Stop Believin’,” which debuted at #4. Since then, they’ve had had 201 different songs peak in the top 75 in Canada, they’ve topped The Beatles’ record with 71 entries on the Hot 100 and last year, their 113th entry beat out Elvis Presley’s record of 108 entries.
However, considering they’ve performed songs by both Elvis and The Beatles on the records, we’re going to still think of the King and Beatles as the ones on top.
But, GLEE’S music has also surpassed records held by James Brown, Ray Charles and Aretha Franklin. Again, Mercedes (Amber Riley) has the Queen of Soul to thank for her musical success, so we’re going to continue to give Aretha the glory despite the numbers.
We can’t deny that we didn’t LOVE their version of Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used To Know,” and apparently everyone else did too because it sold 170,000 tracks in two weeks. Blaine, you and your bro (Darren Criss and Matt Bomer) can serenade us anytime you want. Apart from that performance, the latest episodes have been relatively disappointing.
Don’t miss the upcoming “Dance with Somebody” episode of GLEE Tuesday at 8pm ET/PT on Global! They’ll be doing a tribute episode to Whitney Houston… fingers crossed it will be better than their boring tribute to SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER.
