It looks like this year’s summer Olympics are getting a style boost. Not only did the design of the Olympic torch win the UK Design of the Year award, but the outfits of several Olympic teams are being created by top designers!
Ralph Lauren has announced that he will once again reprise his role as designer for Team USA. The line of clothing is inspired by ‘30s and ‘40s sportswear, so we can expect vintage crests, fleece warm up gear and of course, the classic Ralph Lauren polo shirts.
Stella McCartney (daughter of Beatles member Paul McCartney) will be designing the outfits for the UK’s athletes. She isn’t new to the world of sportswear either, having previously collaborating with Adidas. The Olympic line is composed of skin-tight pieces emblazoned with the Union Jack.
Just when things couldn’t get any more fashionable, Giorgio Armani announced that he’s designing Italy’s outfits. No word yet on what these will look like, but if Armani’s involved, they’re sure to be spectacular.
Designer Cedella Marley is more known for her famous father (Bob Marley) than her work in fashion. Nevertheless, she has been chosen to collaborate with Puma and design the kit (that’s another name for sportswear line) for Jamaican athletes. The kit will feature warm colours, ‘70s inspiration and Jamaican cultural influences.
Team Canada’s kit is being designed by The Bay. Sure, it may not be as glamorous as high fashion, but at least we can rest assured that the outfits will fully represent Canadian pride!
