Step aside Disney, there’s soon to be a new PINOCCHIO in town! Director Guillermo del Toro has announced that he is preparing to direct a new version of the classic tale.
GUILLERMO DEL TORO’S PINNOCCHIO will be a stop-motion, 3D film that follows Pinocchio, the wooden boy who has a habit of telling tall tales, on his adventures in Italy during World War I and World War II. Obviously, that’s not quite the same plot as the Disney movie, but it’s really better that way because nobody should ever try to remake Disney Classics. Ever.
No actors have been cast yet, since del Toro doesn’t intend to start working on the movie until the summer of 2013. No surprise there, seeing as he’s currently working on 14 other projects! We do know that he is considering Tom Waits for the role of Geppetto and Donald Sutherland for the role of the fox, but how much either of those characters will come into the movie is yet to be announced.
One thing’s for sure, Guillermo del Toro plans to put a dark, creepy spin on the beloved story.
