Willow Smith may only be 11-years-old, but that hasn’t stopped her from releasing four music videos to date. Her first one, “Whip My Hair,” had a ridiculously catchy song that everyone found themselves singing while trying to… well…whip their hair! Her new song and accompanying music video, “I Am Me,” shows a different side of the spunky songstress.
“I Am Me” is more of a ballad than a dance tune. In the song, Willow talks about finding her individuality and sticking with it even if some people may disapprove or simply not understand. She’s received a lot of criticism for her original, off-the-beaten path outfits. In her new song, she tells her critics that she doesn’t care what they think and that she fully intends to go on being herself.
Being true to yourself is a prevalent theme in lots of TV shows, books, movies and songs. We’re super glad to hear Willow sing about it because, hopefully, she’ll inspire her fans to be unique and not resort to compromising their personalities to fit in.
The video itself it simple, consisting of Willow singing in front of a graffiti-covered wall, sitting with an electric keyboard and standing on a road with traffic behind her. The song gives her the opportunity to prove that she really does have an impressive voice. Considering that her parents are two of Hollywood’s most successful actors and her brother has an acting and singing career of his own, it should come as no surprise that Willow is brimming with talent!
