Hollywood has a thing for pitching movies against one another. Just this year, two Snow White films came out within months of each other, causing people to compare them and prompting moviegoers to take sides, like TWILIGHT fans that need to pick Team Edward or Team Jacob. Well, Hollywood’s done it again. Two Sleeping Beauty movies are scheduled to be released probably sometime in the next two years.

The first, as many may have already heard, is MALFICENT, starring Angelina Jolie. The movie tells the classic Sleeping Beauty story, but from the dark point of view of Maleficent, the evil fairy who cursed the princess and made her and her kingdom snooze for 100 years. With an amazing cast like Elle Fanning, Imelda Staunton (Professor Umbridge from the HARRY POTTER series)  and of course the amazing Miss Jolie, MALEFICIENT is bound to be a hit!

On the other end of the scale, producer Neal Mortiz has announced that he will be working on a movie that puts a comedic spin on the fairy tale. His Sleeping Beauty flick (which, at this point, remains sans title) will take place in modern times and features Prince Charming being obsessively stalked by Sleeping Beauty, who he woke up entirely by mistake.

It’s clear that the two movies couldn’t be more different, but that doesn’t mean that rivalries won’t become apparent. It’s not so much the film studios that get competitive, but, rather, the fans; however, let’s face it: the feuds are what make these kinds of situations more exciting for everyone!
