Is anyone else as surprised by this news as we are? Kinder Eggs are the epitome of chocolate treats. There’s just something so magical about a thin white and milk chocolate shell with a toy inside. Though people are free to enjoy them in Canada, people in the U.S. aren’t so lucky, as two American tourists discovered.
The two men were on vacation in Vancouver when they decided to bring home some Kinder Eggs for their friends and families since they can’t be found in the states. When crossing the Canadian border, their car was searched by border guards. When the chocolate eggs were discovered, the guards informed the men that they were illegal in the U.S. because the toys are considered a choking hazard for babies and toddlers. They were then taken to a detention center where they spent two hours.
The entire fiasco ended up being a giant waste of everyone’s time and the tourists got off with a warning. Kinder Eggs are fun and delicious, but definitely not worth the possibility of paying a substantial fine and spending time stuck in a detention center, which is really just a nice word for jail. Enjoying Kinder Eggs without getting arrested is one of the many perks of living in Canada!
