It goes without saying that the British sure know how to put on a show, especially after yesterday’s closing ceremony of the London Summer Olympics! It’s hard to decide if the opening or the closing ceremony was better because they both blew viewers away! Here are some of our favourite acts from yesterday’s ceremony:
One Direction: Though the boys only got to sing one of their songs, seeing them sail out on a truck’s flatbed at the beginning of the event was still exciting. We loved how the ceremony was a mix of old and new British bands.
The Spice Girls: Rumours had been swirling for a while about the Spice Girls reuniting in honour of the Olympics. Watching them perform while riding on the roofs of London taxis was thrilling and we’re pleased to report that they still look and sound incredible!
Fatboy Slim: The performances featuring British DJ Fatboy Slim were super fun to watch! From the moment he appeared on top of Russell Brand’s octopus bus to when he mixed the tunes for Jessie J’s performance, the ceremony took an energetic twist!
The Phoenix Ballet: This part of the ceremony was great because it was so unexpected! Generally speaking, ballet and sports don’t mix, but yesterday they mingled quite well. The dancers were dressed as phoenixes, which are mythical birds that burst into flame when they die and are then reborn from the ashes. This was used to symbolize the Olympic flame being extinguished only to be relit in 2016 for the Summer Olympics that will be hosted in Rio De Janeiro.
It’s sad that the London Olympics are over, but at least that means that we’re just that much closer to the games of 2016. Too soon to feel excited? Maybe, but the Olympics seem to have that amazing infectious affect on people! Congratulations to all the participating countries!
