One can only imagine how happy the winner of YTV's THE NEXT STAR is feeling right now! Last night at the live finale of season five, fourteen-year-old Brooklyn Roebuck of Chatham was announced as the winner of the competition. She was so choked up with emotion that she could barely wrap up the show with One Direction’s “One Thing”. We spoke with her right after her big win. Here's what she had to say:
What thoughts were going through your head right before the winner was announced?
I was just thinking, “Am I actually going to be the winner?” There were six people and only one of me, so it was hard to actually think that I was going to be the one to win!
How do you feel now that you’ve won?
It hasn’t kicked in yet! But it’s crazy, I can’t believe it!
What’s been the best part of this entire experience?
Definitely hanging out with the top six. We have so much in common; we all love singing. Having Amer and Ryan play the piano and the guitar and just jamming out was amazing.
If you could go back in time to the beginning of the competition and give yourself one piece of advice, what would it be?
Really, just don’t worry. Be yourself, because that’s really all that matters, right?
What was it like making your music video?
It was so much fun. That was one of my top favourite parts about being in the top six. You actually got to act out your own song. It was amazing!
If you could pick one singer that people would associate you with, who would it be?
Probably Taylor Swift… hopefully! Other than the fact that she’s kind of going pop. I don’t know, even the outfit that I wore gave off a Taylor Swift vibe because she always wears the really sparky skirts!
Thanks, Brooklyn! It’s safe to say that we can expect great things from her!
