We all know that looking at cute pictures can be just the thing to cheer you up on a bad day (or, help you procrastinate even more!) But did you know that looking at that cute puppy or fuzzy kitten can improve your concentration? Japanese scientists have proven that looking at cute animals help improve your mental focus.
The research, titled the “Power of Kawaii" (Kawaii meaning cute in Japanese), showed that people had higher levels of concentration after looking at pictures of puppies or kittens. After viewing cute images, participants were more productive and performed tasks with greater care.
The study took place at Hiroshima University and divided 132 university students into groups of three. While performing tasks that required concentration, people who looked at pictures of baby animals out-performed those who looked at adult animals.
Well, it seems that looking at photos of cute kittens and puppies isn't a waste of time after all. Just remember to hit the books afterwards to put that extra concentration to good use!
