THE MAGAZINE chatted with Amy Heidemann and Nick Noonan, who are together known as the high-energy pop duo Karmin, at KiSS 92.5’s Wham Bam concert.
Originally posting covers to YouTube, they are now their own success story with their mega hits “Brokenhearted” and “Hello”.
What got each of you into music?
Amy: I climbed up on the piano bench when I was 3 years old and I started clinking on things and my mom heard me playing. I think it was "Mary Had A Little Lamb" and she came in and said, “Amy Renee, who taught you how to play that?” And I was like, “nobody mom,” and she put me into piano lessons the next day.
Nick: I remember there was always a lot of music on when we were cleaning and doing chores as a kid. There was a lot of singing and stuff and it was always something that was natural. That’s how it started.
How did you two meet?
Amy: We actually met at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. John Mayer went there. Nick was the trombone player and I was like, “that is very attractive!” We started dating seven years ago, which is way too long ago!
What is your guilty pleasure?
Amy: Call Me Maybe [by Carly Rae Jepsen.]
Nick: Ice cream. Anything sweet. Sour stuff.
Do you have a hidden talent?
Nick: Do I have a hidden talent? I’m trying to find a single talent! [laughs]
Amy: Nick does the monkey walk really good.
Thank you Amy and Nick!
