How do you define an entrepreneur? Do they have a high drive for achievement? Are they good salespeople? Do they work tirelessly all day and night? That’s yes to all three but there is one important quality missing. An idea. Anyone can come up with something that could change the world but to make it a success you need to have the whole package.

Today’s most successful entrepreneurs find a hole and fill it. Or they make a new hole to fill. They can see into the future and single out what is needed and then go about making that thing. It can be anything from food to clothing to tech to entertainment. They hyper-focus on their niche and put in hard labour until it is amazing. Then they share it with us.

To become a successful entrepreneur in the world, you have to be innovative, driven, and passionate about your idea. Many also find it useful to enroll in entrepreneurship courses to polish their skills. Once you are equipped with the right skills and ambitions, go for your aspirations and get started with your business idea today. The only difference between you and these amazing people listed above is they took the first step towards their dreams, and then kept walking.

Let’s take a look at some of the most successful entrepreneurs in the world today.

1. Elon Musk

Elon Musk is considered one of the most successful entrepreneurs in the world. He started his first company Zip2 with brother Kimbal in 1995 and 4 years later sold it for over 300 million. He then co-founded, an online bank, which became PayPal and it sold 3 years later to eBay for 1.5 billion. His take was 180 million.

He took that money and invested it in SpaceX, Tesla, and Solar City among other ventures, and today has a net worth approaching 200 billion. He is expected to be the first trillionaire within this decade.

Musk says about entrepreneurship: “It is important to view knowledge as sort of a semantic tree: make sure you understand the fundamental principles – the trunk and big branches – before you get into the leaves/details, or there is nothing for them to hang on to.”

2. Oprah Winfrey

Born in Mississippi to a single mother, Oprah has fought hard out of poverty to get where she is today. She is the definition of grit. She was raped at 14, and after her son died shortly after birth, she was sent to live with Vernon Winfrey in Nashville. She got a job in radio and worked her way up to news anchor at WLAC-TV, the youngest at the time.

Her drive for success and hard work lead her to start her own production company and talk show out of Chicago, The Oprah Winfrey Show. Oprah kept reinventing herself and became “The Queen of Media” and later a multi-billionaire.

She is a testament to always striving for what you want and overcoming whatever hurdles come up. Oprah recommends: “Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough.”
